The Rebels are proud to have been a part of the development of many baseball players and more importantly of many outstanding young men. This page is to recognize and celebrate those past Rebel players who have gone on to excel at higher levels of baseball or to achievements off the field deserving of recognition.
Chad Kuhl - 2012 New Market Rebel
-After his time with the Rebels Chad was drafted in 9th round of the MLB Draft in 2013. After 3 years in the minor leagues Chad made his MLB debut with the Pirates on June 26th, 2016. He went on to make 14 starts with the Pirates through the end of 2016 season. (Last updated 1/24/17)
Joey Butler - 2006 New Market Rebel
-Joey was selected in the 15th round of the 2008 MLB draft by the Texas Rangers. He has played in the MLB for the Rangers, Cardinals and Rays.
Brandon "Cotton" Dickson - 2006 New Market Rebel
-After his dominant tenure with the Rebels "Cotton" went on to pitch with the St. Louis Cardinals organization. After making several appearances for the big league Cardinals "Cotton" requested a release in order to pursue a professional career in Japan. As of the 2016 season Brandon is still active with the Orix Buffaloes of the NPB the highest level of professional baseball in Japan. (Last updated 1/24/17)
Brett Gardner - 2002-2003 New Market Rebel
-After his tenure with the Rebels Brett was drafted in the 3rd round of the 2005 MLB draft by the New York Yankees. He made it to the big leagues in 2008. In 2009 Brett was the primary Center Fielder on Yankees World Championship team. On 9/21/08 he was the last player to ever score a run at (Old) Yankee Stadium.
Chris Ray - 2001 New Market Rebel
-Chris was drafted in the 3rd round of 2003 MLB draft. In 2005 he broke into the MLB with the Baltimore Orioles. In 2006 and 2007 he was the Orioles primary closer amassing 49 saves over those two years. In 2012 he announced his retirement from professional baseball.
Jared Burton - 2001 New Market Rebel
-Jared was drafted in the 8th round of the 2002 MLB draft. He was later selected by the Cincinatti Reds in the 2006 Rule 5 draft and he made his MLB debut with the Reds in April, 2007. Jared pitched in the MLB until 2014. Over 8 full MLB seasons he had a career 3.44 ERA working primarily as a relief pitcher.
Brad Ziegler - 2001 New Market Rebel
Originally drafted by the Phillies it took Brad a change of scenery and a change in delivery method from overhand to side arm to eventually break into the Major Leagues. In 2--- he made his Major League debut with the Oakland A's. He went on to pitch the first 39 innings of his career without allowing a run which is a Major League record.
Javier Lopez - 1996 New Market Rebel
-Javier was drafted in 1998 by the Arizona Diamondbacks. He has since pitched in the Major Leagues for the Diamondbacks, Rockies, Red Sox, Pirates, and Giants. He won World Series titles in 2007 with the Red Sox and in 2010, 2012, 2014 with the Giants.
